“Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) are the backbone of Malaysia’s economy, representing 97.4% of all business establishments. As of 2020, there were 1,226,494 MSMEs operating across the country (SME Corp Malaysia, 2020). These enterprises play a vital role in national development—contributing 48.2% of the country’s total workforce and accounting for 38.4% of Malaysia’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in 2022 (Chief Statistician Datuk Seri Dr Mohd Uzir Mahidin, Business Today, 27 July 2023). We are committed to supporting and empowering this essential segment, recognizing its importance in driving innovation, employment, and economic growth.”

Evolution of the Malaysian Business Federation

The pandemic however has brought in a very clear objective:

 

  • We need an entity that intends to unite all of these business interest groups and associations into a collective, singular and formidable voice.

We now represent over 200 business associations and business chambers, representing almost 500,000 individual business.

Moving to the post pandemic phase

  • A war cry to build back our businesses and economy
  • Businesses need the right regulatory environment, trade agenda, legal system, workforce policies, and rules todrive growth
  • With the right decisions, we need fresh and effective ‘rakyat’ and ‘business’ centric strategy approaches that help business-led growth.

That’s why while remaining apolitical, FMBA continue to fight for the policies we need

  • To help businesses lead our economy out of the worst downturn we have in living memory
  • Steady our fight against the crippling partisanship that stymies progress.
